I posted this in a private subforum, but none of the information is actually sensitive, so I'll copypasta here with slight additions.
July 1st, 1999 was when the Yahoo group set up shop, mostly Grahf666 some friends (as well as random people interested in hentai of course). The website that went with the Yahoo group was Set up July 1st, 2000. Then E-Hentai.net opened up around July 1st, 2001 (sorta, things didn't seem to happen until a server move). Euphoric Visions split off of E-Hentai.net as it was in its death throws (sorta). Internal complications between EVA01GoNeBeRsErK (or however he capitalized his name) and Onthadownlow, as well as EVA01's mass banning and deoping of Hentaipalm users from the E-Hentai IRC chatroom, spoiled the relationship between a LOT of people, and and made the Hentaigroup especially hostile to EVA01's brand of E-Hentai. The Euphoric Visions site opened around May 2005 I think. The Forums for the then new EHentaiHip.com opened up on July 1st 2005 (keeping with tradition for anniversaries). I can't remember exactly when Euphoric Visions went down, but it was due to EVA01GoNeBeRsErK basically abandoning the site without telling anyone or transferring ownership to someone. Also, the lack of concern or updates to the site because of Eva01's constant disappearances, as well as trying to take on too many projects (a scanlations group called "DoujinAdoption", two artists who were going to make exclusive content, and trying to juggle with a constantly clamping down HentaiKey) caused the site and community to fall into disrepair, where it finally died with a whimper. Before the fall of Euphoric Visions the E-Hentai.net Domain was bought from right underneath our feet, which marked the final end of E-Hentai.net. Too bad Grahf666 was the one who owned the domain name, the main server space, and he had fallen off the planet as far as anyone could tell.
Anything information involving this iteration of E-Hentai is available on the forums. Reasons for its popularity is obvious through the Announcements subforum (primarily the introduction of user galleries and the hentaiverse), and Kru Tenboro is the sole big cheese running the and winding the clockworks. As for whether or not this is his full time job, I don't know off hand, he'll have to answer that himself.
So excluding downtimes, some form of E-Hentai (proto, primary, bastard child, reborn, what have you) has existed for 12 years come this July. There you go, the abridged history of E-Hentai Sites, excluding the majority of the HentaiPalm fiasco, to which I am glad I was never really a part of, though struck dumb at the time that such idiocy could occur so quickly and easily.
(insert Peter Griffin's "I was there" speech when he found out he was black)
