I kind of feel like I'm burned out of playing video games these past couple of years. Life has been fairly good to me these past few years, so I've had the opportunity to do other things with my time besides playing with my Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, and even games on my Android phone. And it's funny because I still occasionally buy games for those consoles and on my phone I mentioned before, but mostly when they're on sale for a good price. But as a result of this, my back log of games is pretty big. I even still have some games like Black Ops 2, Skyrim, Twisted Metal, and Borderlands 2 in their plastic packaging from when I bought them on Black Friday last November. Yet despite my back log, the ONLY game that I've been playing constantly these past couple of years, has been MLB: The Show, for PS3. And I guess it doesn't hurt that baseball has been my personal passion since high school also. But I feel even that is starting to wind down for me these past 2 or 3 years now.

Also recently, I've discovered the goodness that is Steam for the 1st time. I have all my games that I've downloaded from Steam on my laptop for now, because I usually just play those games at work when I have little breaks here and there. And the game that I play the most from Steam is Euro Truck Simulator 2 (I've got like almost 100 hours put into that game so far). But now a days, I see myself playing even those games less and less frequently - they just don't hold my attention like they used to when I first got them.

Some of my friends told me that if you put some time off from playing games, it usually helps to rekindle that need to play again. So I might just do that for the next couple of weeks and see what happens. And also hopefully, with the announcement that Sony made about the PS4, maybe that will also help my inner-gamer in me to come out again.

So... is anyone else here on the same boat as me? Just liked to know how others are dealing with or have dealt with this issue before.

P.S. As for why I used a slightly bigger font when I wrote this, someone suggested to me that it's easier on the eyes to read long pieces of writing with a bigger font.

Yes. I'm going to hand my PS3 to my niece this month.
Not much time for gaming, especially when life's getting hard for me.

It wouldn't be unheard of for someone to tired of a hobby, and while video gaming has been quite the ride, it's not impossible that to put a hold on gaming is entirely is out of the question. But like movies and books, its really the experience that reminds you what makes the medium so great. If the game is good, then it's obvious to you. There's no need to validate the medium through playing multitudes of games that you don't enjoy. There will be games that will be shit when playing, but it's those special examples that remind you why you fell in love with the medium.

Dapanza, perhaps you haven't found a game worth playing in ages, and that's fine. It's a tad difficult to say that one has grown out of the medium though. For me, to invalidate the years of my of my life that I did enjoy gaming would be far too disingenuous. Perhaps there will be a game that rekindles that same spark that invited you to that old passion, or perhaps not. I've accepted that there will be a day when I won't have the time for it anymore, but I will still appreciate it and look forward to the next game that I could find just as enticing.

I alredy did grow tired, in some ways.

I always like videogames. Reading about videogames. Dreaming about videogames. What I lack is the time to play them through the end, except rare cases.

It's a pity, I hope to become rich soon and stop working my ass out for 12 hours a day.

I can see myself eventually being bored with the whole concept of "gaming". So many games feel like ripoffs of one and another so it's starting to get repetitive.

It's a cycle.

I feel burned out of videogames, playing nothing but some MMORPG daily. Then a game I'm expecting comes out or is translated, and I finish it in a couple of days, then I start playing a lot of different games again.

Then I start getting burned out, and fall back into LoL/Maple/etc.

What I get out of playing fighting games is to visceral to stop. I pretty much don't care about most single player games as most of the new ones are just 3d movies with shitty gameplay.

I already notice that I don't quite enjoy games as much as I used to. I don't know what happened, seems like newer games have less stuff to do like side quests and optional bosses and whatnot. Or maybe it's just me?

Maybe you're right, the developer seems to make a new feature, despite what genre it is.

And for this time, developer seems to make a 'social game', i think it's because people today usually hang up with their tablet or smartphone.

Boy am I glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Thought maybe it was just me, but maybe it's the developers who are at fault here? I mostly play JRPGs and the newer ones seem more focused on the story and don't give us much extra stuff to do.

Yes, the gameplay doesn't change too much

Most RPG use turn based, and for FF series they used ATB

And teens now just play, at least in my country (i mention it twice^^) the social games, ex: Fruit Ninja and sort like that (no offense, I don't see fruit ninja is guilty),

Teens now seem doesn't bothered with gameplay, storyline, music, etc. They tend to focus in:
- Graphic
- Visual Effect (More explosion, more blast, more lighting effect = more addicted HURRRR!!!)

just a few hardcore gamer who plays the old title games

i think if they had feel the glorious era of playstation, SNES, maybe they will turn as we are^^

Sad but true. It's only a matter of time before the 3DS and PS Vita are phased out completely due to quicky social games on phones.

Same thing goes for the Graphics/Visual Effects for todays teens. I hardly know of anyone playing turn-based RPGs anymore. It's all about CoD and other FPS games.
