I this thread i would like to see what os are you using and some opinions about it , problems that you faced
i'm using windows 7 right now , had some problems with my sound and video card but i've downloaded their drivers from internet and now it's working good. It's using a bit more memory than windows xp witch I had before but it looks better (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
On 2 of the 3 computers I log on from - Windows XP SP3. On one of them it's past second switch of moetherboard and CPU without OS reinstallation, and still working flawlessly (4GB RAM currently, of which it uses ~3.2).
On the third, Mac OS X 10.5.6. Also no problems apart from those with my work on it - I port games from PC to Mac.
Actually, VLC Player works much better on Mac than it does on Windows - it's my player of choice currently. Also because Mac is contained in 24'' monitor.
Mac OS 10.5.6 + XP virtual machine on my work laptop and a tri-boot of XP SP2, Kubuntu, and OS X on my gaming desktop. Personally I prefer KDE4+Ubuntu over OS X for work (I'm a programmer), but Apple's laptops certainly do have amazing battery life. Plus, there are some really amazing apps for the mac.
I'm using Windows XP 32-Bit on two PCs. I have no Problems with it. No crashs and (with an Anti-Virus-Software installed) no Viruses. I see no reason to change my OS in the nearer Future. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
The second Fedora machine is 500 miles away from me. I would count another Fedora machine which is across the country but I technically don't own it, just manage it. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Desktop: Windows XP Home SP3 Laptop: Windows Vista Home Premium Alternative use OSes*: Windows ME / Ubuntu 8.10 / FreeBSD 8
...and this is nothing compared to what one of my friends has in his house. He has some 20+ machines, all active... I don't even know all the details myself, but it's packed.
*...all on machines I use when my active-use machines are out of commission. A guy's gotta have something to do... (¬_¬)
What's particularly wrong with Windows Vista, or is your laptop not designed for it? I run it here on my desktop without any issues, it in fact runs more stable than my friend's XP 64-bit system.
