Trying to expand one of the ideas that originated from Ass Spanker's recent music contests. Maybe get a different audience in a different subforum.

If you know of any songs that resemble each other in any sort of way, either in their entirety or just a specific part, please post them. In pairs, with timestamps if applicable. At least one of the songs in each comparison should be anime, game, or japanese in origin.

Out of nowhere, this song suddenly appeared all over my youtube side links today. It's really spammy of the same thing over and over. I feel like a song of this kind has got to have a bunch of clones out there somewhere, but offhand I can't think of what they are.

Thanks, I had been looking for the original chiki chiki song, but hadn't been able to find it. I'm not surprised it was spanish/mexican or whatever that is. I had indeed been searching for similar american and european songs from the beginning, except I don't know of many, so I didn't really find any perfect examples. Now there are more versions spamming my youtube links. What unholy manner of creature is this? I think I'm going to get a nightmare of that tonight.

(Now I see a vtuber one, I won't link that one since it doesn't use the "original" music, but the vtuber is super hot. Actually now that I look at other of their videos, they have that problem where the voice changes, so I think they are using multiple VA and some might be voice changing guys).

(Vtubers continue increasing in the games I play, and I recently got tricked by one that was a voice changing dude. Most of them just talk using normal guy voices, so I said I was going to kill myself if it was a girl because the Japanese player was too powerful in the game. Then it had a real girl voice that none of us could debunk, but fortunately before I killed myself a Japanese player told me a week later that it was a guy who always uses a super good voice changer).

Dan Dan is a song I know very well, but when I heard the first song, it didn't instantly trigger the similarity feeling. I can tell they are similar though afterward. I hope people leave me Dan Dan in your contest. I don't care that someone took Head Cha-La as I never particularly liked that song (although the Aya Hirano version is maybe my favorite Aya Hirano vocal. I don't like her singing and chose to submit Mikuru over Haruhi for your 王道進行 contest). I only know about 80 songs to start and probably half of them will end up taken by others, so it might be a struggle for me to get to 44, let alone pick which ones I submit. Probably a couple of us may start researching for the final couple rounds, is my guess.

I like the second set of songs posted; never seen any of these series. Makes me want to watch monogatari series, but I think there is too much of it, and the domestic blu-rays cost a fortune, so I'm scared away.

I have Baka Test on blu-ray. I didn't like that song enough to remember it, so I wouldn't have been able to identify that similar song that is like pretty much exactly the same everywhere.

The main groove part of all these dance songs is the tresillo rhythm (3-3-2), one of the most common syncopations used in a million songs. I guess it's not really a syncopation per se when it's the main driving force of the song.

You will have a higher chance of finding a similar song if you look at latin music (rhythm) or early 2000s eurodance music (instrumentation).

Way too many parts yea. I do recommend taking a listen to the music though. The entire franchise is soloed by a legendary composer/producer who put out a lot of trademark anime music.



I have been hearing a lot of songs that sound somewhat similar to some other songs recently but I can't for the love of god find what songs sound like what. I mean it makes sense considering how much music I listen to but it really irks me and leaves me sleepless for nights not knowing that little piece of melody already appeared in what song.
Like the intervals at 0:09. It's D E F# G F#. I suppose it's D major for the intro, so it's 1 2 3 4 3. I know I have heard it somewhere but can't remember where.
Like the melody at the start of the chorus. Yes, vtuber music, feel free to judge me. A3 A4 G# F# E D C# D E (1 8 7 6 5 4 3 4 5). The thing is one of the songs I'm looking for can very well be in the medley considering how much time I spent listening to that shit when making it. Your brain just kinda mushes all the songs into one when you spend that much time with them.

That ZAQ song does remind me of stuff, but the feeling isn't strong enough to make me think I might actually know what in particular. Since I only listened to the medley a couple times, I probably won't get medley pollution in my brain. I was actually afraid of that, so I've tried to avoid overlistening to the medley.

edit: I'm relistening to the ZAQ song. The feeling is getting stronger, so now I think I might have the similar song(s) in my brain somewhere. Or it might be like some random song that anyone posted in one of your recent contests, since I listen to most of those. Anyway, it sometimes takes me a few days to figure out what the similar song is, so we can hope for a few days. Oh and it's probably not another ZAQ song, since I don't even know what a ZAQ is.

I feel I might have heard it in some kind of trailer/commercial for an anime or possibly an anime-related game. Something from one of the more recent Fate series or Grand Order games maybe? (I wouldn't have these on my hard drive, as I'm too lazy to download most anime music these days unless it's something I really like).

None of those others reminded me of anything, even though I have watched Ano Hana and should know its song. I didn't like its opening song, so I probably can't remember it to associate it with anything. There have been a few songs in the medley from anime I have watched, that I had forgotten the song entirely. Like the ending song to Waiting in the Summer by yanagi nagi. There's also a fair number of songs that I obviously recognize but can't figure out, and I had some of them labeled like Snafu song, except that I know it's probably not because I already searched those. Anyway someone else identified that one by now and it wasn't even a yanagi nagi song, but I forget what it was.

That's the 3-3-2 syncopation I was talking about. It's super clear when you have the gameplay to visualize the rhythm. Same intervals as well (BC#D# and CDE)

Nah just characteristics of the genre and probably because Sawano is the guy who spams that genre the most in anime music. I know jack shit about genres so I can't say for sure what kind of rock it is.

Spy music heh. Listen to the bridge of the SxF song, the percussion (bell?) sound. The guitars sound quite similar as well.

It took me the maximum three days, but my feelings eventually figured out what one of the other songs in my head was. It's not that similar, though. My manual searching earlier targeted the wrong Fate songs.

I think this isn't the real answer, though. I suspect there is another anime song much more similar to this clip. I may not be personally familiar that one, like it's maybe a random post from the contests.

Except for the 1/8 ascending intervals, I don't think there's anything similar between the 2 songs. F/SN anime OP isn't strictly ascending even. Found it, it was another ZAQ song. Similar chords, both very fast songs (240BPM and 203BPM), 1 semitone between the keys. I just noticed that this song you linked earlier is really similar to the Chiki Chiki Bum Bum song. They should use it for a season two or something. Now someone made another strange version of that song with that same pink girl. She's not as freaky looking in her original form. The freaky version reminds me of the horn girls from Elfen Lied or Darling in the Franxx.

Almost anything by the two fripSide composers (Sat/Kai) will sound similar. It's their trademark style kinda.
The 2 songs in your second example sound really similar. The intervals are different but the rhythm and movement are similar. I doubt they can be mixed together easily though since the chords and notes themselves sound quite different.

In general for similar songs I want to avoid picking songs from the same composer, especially those with distinctive styles (fripSide, the people from I've, Key, 5pb., prolific anime producers, etc.)

I have zero doubt that Aiobahn is inspired by a lot of music by other producers or general writing tricks since he's a new producer in the scene. His most popular work is likely INTERNET OVERDOSE, boosted to its fame thanks to the, uhhh, visual novel? It's kinda like DDLC, that kind of meta horror cute girl game. Not my cup of tea though since totono will always be the best of its type. But my point is listen to how generic the song is. You can probably extrapolate the chords for the entire song from the first few seconds of listening. Production is not exactly top tiered either.

The first pair is really sus. Pretty much exact same melody and rhythm. I can pardon the chord progression because they are both Canon in B major. Yes, same key as well. The Ranma song is a fair bit slower.
The second pair I say it's an ok. Same melody and rhythm but it's a natural way to do an ascending then descending to tonic melody. The chords are very different as well.
For the third set, not exactly sure what you hear from the Nanoha track. These sounds like your usual ascending notes. Not sure about Nanoha or PreCure or Pokemon but the other two tracks sound like a min9 but without the 7th. Quite the dramatic sounding chord when you press it.

The verse of Testament of Sister New Devil is the most recognizable part of that song. I hope that the pink hair girl wears her swimsuit for Machikado Mazoku season two. I haven't watched it yet but I bought her swimsuit toy before season one.

I don't watch idol anime or games, but watching those 3D videos with different outfits makes me think that if they wore the right kind of swimsuit that I might be compelled to play. I have no idea what you do in those games. Checking around, it seems like PC versions were just released recently so mods are possible now. Actually I don't need mods, just good swimsuits to be normally available. Seems like there might be some but I haven't seen any of these videos yet wearing the swimsuits I like.

I was going to say that Ojisan Marshmallow doesn't sound like other KOTOKO songs, but I guess it's because it has new Aiobahn composer. I kind of liked this song (though I like regular KOTOKO songs better) then I checked the Touhou song and it was okay too, but I remember that I generally don't love Touhou music (people tried to convince me before that it was good and I was never that impressed). So I checked Ojisan again and the melody didn't sound that similar to me (although the ZAQ part was exactly the same). Actually the Ojisan song reminds me more of Toradora Pre-Parade/Vanilla Salt, though I think it's purely instrumentation.

Yea, usually KOTOKO's music is written by composers from I've (Takase, C.G mix, Nakazawa, etc.). The melody is exactly the same in the first few notes of each bar, then some main points are the same as well.

The lyrics are your usual edgy "i'm 14 and this is deep" teenager song. Ignoring this, I would say the melody is extremely catchy, rhythm is fun. Chord progressions are all your usual anime progressions and just the two of us progressions. On the anime progression part, the IV V #Vdim vi version is Ayase's favorite (the producer of the YOASOBI duo). As much as I hate mainstream music, I have to acknowledge Ayase's genius in music production. He really knows how to hit that catchy switch in his music.

For Yoru ni Kakeru, I noticed the final chorus sounds happier than the normal choruses because the final chorus doesn't use as many chromatic notes and the progression in the final chorus has an ascending tendency (IV V iii vi leading to IV V #V vi) compared to a descending one for the normal choruses. And the +2 semitone key change as well. Then I pull a parallel to how the characters in the song only achieve true happiness in death. That's my true "i'm 14 and this is deep" moment with the song.
