4K is nice but 1080p is so consistent when you're a gamer the frequently goes back to older games. I couldn't even think about upgrading to 5090 without it being overkill.

I think the only game that even maxes out the 4090 atm is Cyberpunk 4k with maxed out raytracing and the mod photo-realism modes.

I suppose there are also warzone players aiming for 600 fps.

The value of anything above say a 60 class Ti/Super card is the problem. The real question of this thread is, should you wait for the 5060 Ti/Super? If they didn't deliberately nerf its total vram then it would be the best choice in the line up.

Each gen was steadily increasing the vram but after the 1000 series, they started holding back on total vram to justify higher sku cards.

Nvidia is now primarily an AI company selling hardware to AI server farms. It is what it is, but it ballooned Nvidia from a "fairly large gaming company" to the 4th largest company in the world, so I can't blame them.

That being said, if you just let go of the "I have the biggest number" attitude, those -60 Ti cards and such are improving at a very rapid rate too, and being sold at a reasonable price. I think people are just stuck on the idea that they need to have "the best card of the generation" because that was still the thing to buy for gaming 10 years ago.

Of course you CAN keep playing only HoMM3 if that's your prerogative but to claim that nothing but goyslop benefits from a good GPU sounds like something a poor person would tell themself to feel better.

Game named SMUTA, it runs 15 FPS even on RTX 4090 in 1080p. I suppose even 5090 TI BOOST OVERCLOCK NUCLEAR FACTORY OC EDITON won't be enough to make it run 60 fps.

I didn't say a 4090, I said a modern GPU.
But look at something like Squad or Baldur's Gate 3. Hell, even Star Citizen and Escape from Tarkov are indies. Then there's a bunch of indie city builders or games with large battles that have to render thousands of assets at once. Dwarf Fortress is 20 years old and easy on the GPU but can melt any CPU if you push it. Not all indies are pixel art 2D platformers.

That's true. Also if you don't play any video games it's still not an issue. The technological device whose main ability is to draw 3D shapes is not necessary if you don't have a need to draw 3D shapes onto a monitor.

My main problem with the 5090 is going to be the power connector. I can not upgrade my current rig to a 5090. Look at all the people that bought a new power supply for the 4090 and now the connector is obsolete because of all of its technical problems.

Actually newest news might mean its compatible with an adapter or new modular cables.

If you use the adapter you don't get the mechanisms to prevent shorts though? But I guess the old 2x8pin setup has decades of reliability (except when putting 600w+ through them).

Larian got the permission to use the BG license after begging for it for a decade. Divinity: OS1 ajd OS2 were both self-funded projects aimed at "proving their merit" for that to happen. It's not a department under WotC. The game was mainly funded via Early Access sales and the leftover cash from their previous releases.
Starry C is obviously 100% crowd-funded, it's sorta famous for how that went.

I will probably skip the next gen of gpus, prices are too high to justify changing cards every gen.

On gpus lasting longer, that isn't really something that is happening due to the cards but actually due to the mess that the gen jump became with the pandemic. 4 years in and you barely have next gen exclusives, the main engine of the generation (UE5) is finally starting to appear with some regularity and we're seeing more upcoming games using it just recently.

This has also reflected on the gpus, with lower tier cards getting some severe performance cuts as they can handle the previous gen very well already so customers didn't feel it as much besides the big differences in numbers on review charts. We will really find out how well the 60/60ti are doing according to the next few UE5 releases.
