I think this is more of a philosophical question: what is more important is the result or the action itself. To a lesser extent, it is a biological question: a complex long-term result gives greater satisfaction, but the brain tries to simplify the task. Sorry for my English.

I can relate to that. In my case, it was time management type of game, back in 2006 or 2007. Plot: a female fairy decided to help out a guy struggling with his gardening business. Business is improving and everyone was happy until the fairy decided to confess her feelings. Thing is the guy rejected her due trauma from a past breakup. The heartbroken fairy then sadly declared after the last chore, she'd leave for good. The very last level was impossible to beat so I never knew how the story concluded. I tried googling for a way to cheat to no avail.

Cheating in singleplayer is like modding. You have the right to play your game the way you want to.

Of course that doesn't mean I won't call you lame if the way you cheat is lame. I have the right to that opinion.

Cheating in competitive single player modes/playstyles (e.g. speed running, score attack) is a bit of a dick move. Otherwise I can't fathom why anyone would seriously care about it.

Honestly It's fine to cheat on single player games, that is if you wish to have more fun with the game you have completed or just want to skip some stuff.

Single player games are meant for you to enjoy, play it by yourself at your own pace and enjoy the game.

More than 10 years ago, when I finished the story mode of Pokemon Black I wanted to experiment with the emulator and test its options. It was a lot more fun though.

I think it's fine. It's not fun being frustrated.

I think that when you are unable to pass certain difficult game levels, you can modify the difficulty of the game. Especially in some fighting games, it is really difficult to get a sure kill.

Literally who cares? As long as it's single player, do what you want. It's part of free software!

cheating in single player is just akin to having a severe skill issue
idk anyone that'd do it, but who knows

If it doesn't hurt anyone, it shouldn't matter. Some may consider the grunt exploding skull in Halo CE a sort of cheat, but you can literally deactivate it at any time. The point is, it's your choice.

It really depends on the game.

It's a personal decision either way.

If it doesnt affect anyone else its fine to cheat. Whats left is how you experience the game you are playing. When I play some games over emulators with statesaving and no permanent ones, it feels a bit like cheating but that just what I think. If the game is good with some quality perhaps the best way is to play the game as intended. About cheating in single player games, if you run around forums or other social media boasting about a game you cleared with cheats I guess cheating could be a problem. As long as you play alone and not share it, its just about how you want to experience the game I guess.

Not something to reproach someone for, but the degree of enjoyment of the game can lessen depending on where you do it.

As long as it's an offline game it should be fine, depending on if you enjoy it yourself if it's in an online game cheating currency is fine for me too but cheating in competitive is kinda shit.

Many games are rated so poorly that the gaming experience cannot be guaranteed without cheating.

Honestly, I encourage singleplayer cheating once you complete the main story/100% the game. It brings you a new experience in the game and allows you to notice stuff that otherwise you wouldn't experience in a legit playthrough.

Half life is a perfect example of this. Using Noclip to get out of bounds and find multiple hidden areas in the skybox is entertaining
