I'm translating a manga chapter where a girl calls a guy "ecchi" in a playful manner while they're on a date. He was asking her why she changed her lipstick, and she replies, "It's because I was thinking of kissing you, ecchi!"

What's the best way of making this come across in English? "You pervert" sounds far too harsh, and "You naughty boy" or "You bad boy" sound too condescending. This is not an H-manga, by the way, so her reply has no overtly sexual overtones.

Any suggestions?

Just a simple "Perv!" comes to mind. I feel like it's a little more playful, less harsh.

Thanks for the suggestion, and apologies for not replying immediately. She actually says "you pervert" for a different reason a couple of panels later on, though, so I may have to stick with "you bad boy" instead for the panel in question for the sake of variety.

I need some help here (QwQ), the word くまいんご is roughly translated into bear's argot/jargon and it doesn't make any sense?! Is this some Japanese in-joke or something??? Any help is much appreciated thanks T_T

EDIT: So after doing some extensive research I found out that the words don't really have a meaning of their own, it's just something the particular female character says for moeness I guess. Sorry for bothering and intruding into this thread L(^w^)/

Why does the word masochist get abbreviated/censored as 'M' in hentai? Is it considered rude like calling a penis a dick?

It's not really being censored. Think of it as slang. It's worth remembering that Japanese, and casual Japanese in particular, is full of contracted terms. This includes English loanwords.

Hey, this is really helpful thanks! Just a quick question, but when do people know how to translate japanese words into English swear words? Like in what instances would you slip that in?

I think that depends completely on the context, if person A talks to person B and they have a friendly relationship f.e lovers, coworkers or just friends used words like ボケ(boke), 馬鹿-ばか-バカ(baka) are used in a friendly manner.

translating words like 女郎(slut), 売女(whore) etc. requires a deeper look in the meaning, are they used to make the situation more "spicy" i would categorize them as "friendly" if they are on bad terms i would categorize them as swear word.

Of course there always exceptions especiall in forced/rape situations.

But the difference between
You fucking slut/whore
or
You slut/whore

is pretty obvious

Ahh. I've doubtless run into it as an onomatopoeia before, but this is the first time i've seen it in a speech bubble. Thanks!
