It is strange that we have a tag for high boots - but just for the 'above the knee' variety.

there is also the term 'calf boots' and it seems popular with UK shops, maybe below-knee boots is a US term and calf boots a UK one? Shrug

Honestly I am unsure if we shouldn't have just one tags for those kind of boots. Maybe it would be best to just adjust the def for the thigh high boots to be more inclusive to include stuff that goes a bit below the knee too, it is "probably" the same fetish anyway?

If we do go with two tags, to avoid people being anal, if we have one def for above the knee and one for below the knee, let's make one of them include knee-high boots, because even I don't think we need that tag.

So, as Red Piotrus has proposed in the two previous posts above, we would end up with two separate boot tags:
-- thigh high boots (already existing)
-- below knee boots (proposed)

To further elaborate, why not separate out the non fetish wear boots? Or is this too much trouble and we should surrender to have all unsexy boots included if they are below the knee? Thigh-high boots are almost all fetish wear (unless they are fishing waders), but below the knee boots have many that are simply practical normal footwear or fashionable footwear without fetish aspect. Let's keep the non-fetish aspects out of the boot tags as long as we can because shouldn't tags be used as tools for hentai-oriented interests?

In such a case, the tags would then be:
-- thigh high boots (already existing)
-- below knee fetish boots (proposed)

Dictionary Requirements:
Taggers must have the same dictionary. (1) Fetish Wear Boots are not sandals, thus any footwear exposing sides of the foot below the ankle (including toes) is not a boot. (2) Fetish Wear Boots are not merely fashionable boots. (3) Boots require a continuous unbroken material from the sole to the upper. Thus shoes with latex stockings or leather chaps up to mid-thigh don't qualify as boots or thigh high boots. (4) Purely practical boots don't qualify as fetish wear boots

For below the knee boots to be included, they need to appear fetish-like such as having excessive laces, significant decorations, or odd colors. The key is that additional decorations must exist beyond purely functional performance. If they appear to be normal boots then they should not be tagged as Fetish Wear Boots.

I agree that the lower boots/sandals/etc. are probably not very fetish-like and should be excluded (or given their own tag as recently proposed in another thread).

Suggestions on how to adjust relevant tags welcome. (Also, one of those two tags should absorb boots that are exactly knee-high).

Sure, we need tags for EVERY length of socks/shoes, from feet, ankle, leg, knee, thigh to ass, we should have all of their own tags.

My suggestion is to rewrite the current tag to be "boots" and the description to cover footwear whose top end spans from the start of the calves to the thighs.

Anyways, this strafes pretty close to the line we have always been careful to avoid crossing aka clothing hell. While the current layout is better with large amount of tags on a gallery then the old one, huge tag clouds still isn't really where we want to be, at least not till a further revamping of the GUI is in place.
Instead going the route of redefining the current tag leaves us in the awkward spot that the established tag instead breaks the current usage, and those that enjoy its current range of content would suddenly be left with having to manually sort through large amounts of undesirable content.

Well, seriously talk, I don't think we need to define tags for each kind of boots/shoes/socks. Knee is a good measurement, any length between knee and ankle would be hard to define and easily confused with regular boots/shoes due to inconsistent art or bad angles.

I don't think tagging too many footware varieties is necessary (or desired), but I refer to the examples in the op. There is clearly stuff that's about as fetishized as a bit longer yet untagged.

I wouldn't mind one tag for a all longer and shorter footware of this type, since we haven't heard from a single person whose fetish would be compromised. In fact, I think those people would want to have those slightly lower boots too. But two tags, one for above, and one for under the knee, with one clearly including the boots that end exactly at the knee, shouldn't overwhelm the galleries.

I think the reason why those boots look sexy is because most of the characters who wear them are naked above the knees, which causes the horny mind of the readers to unconsciously focus on the boots due to the difference between the naked body parts and the ones covered in clothing. This works with normal shoes too. Or any other clothing such as scarf, hat, belt etc. as long as other body parts are naked and the readers' horny level is high enough

That's an interesting idea but for a separate tag. Would need to come up with a good name first, I can't think of anything short.

Either way, per examples in my op, there is plenty of fetish content (just like 'thigh high boots') that is right now not taggable. That needs to be addressed one way or another, it's weird we can tag 'thigh high boots' but not the other three. (To avoid too many tags, I still think just one for the mid-cal to knee high would be enough, particularly as I can't recall much about ankle boots being distinctive anyway, unlike knee-high or just below - I mean, those are classic Sailor Moon boots, among others...).

I think this tag is the best approach forward. The thigh high one is too specfic and cannot be adjusted to include other long boots at this point.
